Eye of the Beholder
Eye of the Beholder
My usual route is simple.
I leave home, walk nearly a kilometer to the subway, take it to Kadıköy, and board a ferry to the other side of Istanbul.
I never decide which direction I’ll walk until I step off the ferry.
About the moment
On a cold, rainy morning in early December, I was sitting next to a young passenger.
He spent most of the ride looking at his phone, seated beside a fogged window.
At one point, he lifted his head, wiped a small part of the glass, glanced outside — and returned immediately to his screen.
Perhaps he thought there was nothing worth seeing.
I felt the opposite.
It was as if he had unknowingly created the scene for me to photograph.
Beauty, after all, is in the eye of the beholder.

Final note
This photograph isn’t about what was seen —
but about what was overlooked.
Sometimes, the moment exists only for the person who chooses to look.
